Gusto Food

We obviously had to kick off this list with the beloved Gusto Food.

Famous for massive portion sizes — we’re talking unbutton your pants massive — and their stacked homemade crumpets. You’ll have to make a beeline for any spare seat when it’s packed out, but it’s totally worth it. They don’t skimp on the coffee either, and the service is always fabulous.

We’re looking past the fact that The Little Banksia is technically in Kensington because it’s too good not to be included.

The neighbourhood cafés all-day menu is just superb — take one bite of their fluffy, Instagrammable buttermilk pancakes and you’ll never look back. They also have all the classic breakfast options with a few twists, plus a seriously good fried chicken burger, if you’re that way inclined!

Mister Walker

Settled on the Mends Street jetty, against the backdrop of the spectacular Perth city skyline is a little restaurant known as Mister Walker. Once you’ve completed your morning exercise, why not take to the jetty for your soy chai and brunch?

Enjoy eggs how you like them, homemade muesli, waffles with berry compote, a brown rice breakfast bowl, smoked salmon bruschetta or portobello mushroom filled with chickpeas, cauliflower, capsicum and cumin in a destination that’s well worth writing home about.

It’s the perfect place to make a guilt-free stop after a stroll along the Swan River. Pick a perch on the picnic mats or beach chairs and take in the city views while you indulge in a variety of fresh flavours and toppings or grab a smoothie instead.

Atomic Espresso

Nestled along leafy Mends Street, Atomic Espresso is a trendy and modern morning pit stop serving up quality coffee and breakfast eats.

It’s the ultimate spot for your next sit-down brunch catch-up with the ladies with a range of dishes to choose from and perfectly roasted coffee to get your morning started right.

Millpoint Caffe Bookshop

Coffee and books. Is there a better match? Millpoint Caffe Bookshop is unmissable in its purple building exterior on Mill Point Road. Take a seat amongst the bookshelves and get lost in the pages as you sip on a coffee and enjoy a slice of cake on the side.

The Boatshed Café is a more relaxed and casual venue, serving breakfast, lunch, morning, and afternoon tea. It boasts the same dreamy riverside view and friendly hospitality as the restaurant, as well as a cubby house playground to entertain the little ones. Safe to say, it’s the ultimate waterfront location to meet friends for coffee and enjoy a lazy Sunday breakfast or a light lunch after a bike ride along the South Perth foreshore.

La Patisserie

Just like Harry Potter, La Patisserie lives under the stairs! This place has earned cult status for its irresistible desserts and melt-in-your-mouth pastries. Our pick? We really can’t go past their buttery almond croissants and fresh, meaty continental baguettes. Pair either with a coffee and a blissful stroll along the South Perth foreshore, and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in heaven!

Venture just a hop, skip, and jump outside of South Perth for this absolute gem of a café.

We absolutely love anywhere that promotes ethical and sustainable practices, so Our Girl Ruby is an automatic winner in our eyes. This Como café is dedicated to zero waste and the best local produce, while also being an equal opportunity employer.

The interior boasts colourful, local Australian flora, and warm woods throughout. While the seasonal menu also has so many goodies we can’t possibly pick a fave — think focaccia with native thyme, house-cured salmon, pan-fried gnocchi, and juniper berry salsa.
